Conan O’ Brien Statement
Conan O’Brien announced in a statement yesterday that he will leave “The Tonight Show” if he’s moved to the midnight slot at 12:05am.
His employer, NBC, had planned to unceremoniously oust the host from his 11:35 p.m. ET time slot come February to make room for a Jay Leno program who is coming back on March 1 into his old time slot.
Conan O’ Brien said in a statement: “My name is Conan O’Brien and I may soon be available for children’s parties.” He then reminisced about watching the “The Tonight Show” as a child. “I remember watching Johnny Carson and thinking, someday I’m going to host that show for seven months,” he said.
NBC network authorities are speculating that this statement made by Conan O’ Brien would likewise effectively end Conan’s 16-year affiliation with the network. In fact, one of Conan’s staff Deon Cole compared Conan O’Brien to a prostitute and the network to his pimp.
